His media career spans three decades and has involved B2B publishing, Exhibitions & Conferences and senior corporate positions with large mixed media owners, including AGB, Maxwell Business Communications and Emap plc.
Kevin served for 3 years as chairman of the AEO (Association of Exhibition Organisers) and also served as a board member of ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulations) and also Chairman of the AEV (Association of Event Venues).
In 2010 he was awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award at the AEO Awards.
During his time as CEO of ExCeL London, Murphy oversaw the investment of £165m by ADNEC, which created a further 40,000m2 of exhibition space and London’s International Convention Centre. Completed in 2010 the Phase 2 development propelled London from 19th in the Global ICCA rankings to 5th. Following the hugely successful 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, in which ExCeL played a key role Kevin stepped down as CEO and was appointed Chairman in 2013.
Kevin was a Board member of London and Partners till November 2017, the official promotion organisation for London, working to attract international businesses to meet and exhibit in the UK capital city and to promote London internationally as a global city. In 2015, he also joined the Board of Visit Britain, the strategic body for inbound tourism and the National Tourism Agency, a public body funded by DCMS (Department for Media, Culture and Sport).
In 2016, Murphy was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours list in recognition of his services to the Business Tourism industry.
